Stephen King and books on horror and other scary stuff!

It's almost Halloween which may put you in the mood for reading a good, old-fashioned scary Stephen King novel. Or you might want to watch one of the film adaptations of his books. He's had so many original and genuinely scary stories, it's hard to pick just a few. But let's try...

How about reading his classic Carrie about the high-school misfit with supernatural powers? She gets a

little carried away at her high school prom, if you know what I mean. We have the book in our collection, ready for you to check out.

I have also just ordered the original movie, made in 1976, titled Carrie, which is sure to give you thrills and chills! Look for it soon in our DVD collection.
And I would be amiss if I didn't mention the new remake of Carrie, now playing at theaters across the country. You might want to go see this just so you can compare and contrast it with the original. For sure, the effects should be macabre!

Another King favorite is Pet Sematary made into a movie in 1989. We'll be adding this DVD to our collection in the upcoming week or so, so don't forget to watch it.
Of recent note is Doctor Sleep published in 2013 and getting a lot of reader attention. In this new book King revives the character of Dan Torrance from The Shining--remember the little boy with the supernatural powers? He's all grown up now and ends up involved in some scary events again. You can read about it in Goodreads, and then you'll probably want to come check it out for yourself. (I noticed our copies of The Shining, both book and DVD, have gone missing, so I'll be ordering new copies of those as well. For those of you unfamiliar with this story or movie, you've simply GOT to see them when they come in; you'll never be the same.)
