End of the world stuff

Lately it seems there are lots of books published containing themes and plots about the end of the world-- whether caused by disease, physical changes in the earth and its atmosphere, aliens, or who knows what else. I've read several and am somewhat surprised that I enjoyed them. These are not the usual type of books that I read, but it goes to show you that it often is worth it to branch out of your comfort zone.

Of course, usually what shines through in these novels is our human ability to maintain hope and determined perseverance in the face of terrible difficulties, loss and expectations of more of the same.

To get you started, or perhaps to assist your continuing journey along these lines, here are a few stories you may want to give a chance:

Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker

The Dog Stars by Peter Heller

12.21: A Novel by Dustin Thomason

We've got all of these in our Laurens and/or Clinton Libraries. We have audiobook versions of the last 2 as well. Come check us out, and see what YOU think about this genre.
